A thirty-year resident of Hinton, Barry has been employed at Morad Communications as a Wireless Internet Technician for the past 6 yrs covering a geographic area from the Overlander to Peers. Prior to that he worked as a Power Engineer for 25 years at the Hinton pulpmill in a unionized position in the Power and Recovery Department.
Barry has 2 children and 2 grandchildren. His 28 yr old son lives in the Okanagan with his growing family and his 17 year old daughter was born and resides in Hinton. He shares a modest home in the lower hill area with his partner Sheila who also has two adult children, both living in Calgary.
Born in Kamloops, B.C. in 1960, Barry has also lived in Prince George, Thailand (3 months at age 8), Kitimat, Prince Rupert and Kelowna before moving to Hinton in 1979.
He has been an active and contributing member of the NDP since the early 80's and worked on a number of election campaigns, including his own in 2004 where he finished a respectable second. Barry proudly took an active role with the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Union as a member, shop steward, financial officer, and political activist from the shop floor. He left the mill in 2004 after his job position was eliminated and he chose severance over bumping another employee.
